These are the start dates available at present. Each class runs for 5 weeks from the start date below unless specified otherwise.

Friday 7th November 10am (Dates are 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th Nov & 5th Dec)
Sunday 9th November 9.30am (Dates are 9th,16th, 30th Nov & 7th, 14th Dec) Note: There is no Class on 23rd November.

Our 5 week puppy course is suitable for all puppies who are aged between 12-21weeks at week one as long as they are fully vaccinated. Starting your training journey early is always advised, so starting at around 12-14weeks is the ideal time, but its never too late, so if your pup is under 21weeks of age at week one this is the class for you.
This is a 5 week course and the cost of this course is £99. Help sheets are sent via email and these are included in the price.
The puppy class starts on the date you choose in the drop down box and then will be on the same day and time each week for 5 weeks in total. (Very occasionally, due to holidays, the 5week course is spread over 6 weeks, so check the dates above before you make the booking). It is not possible for you to swop between different classes as we limit the numbers in each class so everyone gets the best experience and support. Each lesson is between 50-60minutes. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK A COURSE IF YOU CANNOT MAKE WEEK ONE AS THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT WEEK. However, you can attend the first lesson without your puppy if your pup is not yet fully vaccinated. It is also advised to attend the lesson (but without pup) if your puppy is ill as you can learn a lot from watching the others.
Vaccinations: Your puppy will need to be fully vaccinated to attend class. This means that your puppy must have had Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvo-virus which will show on your vaccination record as DHP. Your pup will generally need two vaccines two weeks apart and then you will be able to attend puppy classes one week after the second vaccine. You do not need to have completed the full course of Lepto to attend. Lepto will show on your vaccination card as L4. The second part of Leptospirosis is generally done 4weeks after the first vaccination. As this can delay the time you can join puppy class or get your pup out and about you should ask your vet to do the DHP 2 weeks after the first vaccine and the second lepto four weeks after the first vaccine, meaning you can get your pup out on walks and start puppy class. If you are not sure do give me a call as I am always happy to talk you through the vaccines and having the right info might mean you don’t need to wait so long to start class. If pup is not yet fully vaccinated you are welcome to attend week one puppy class without your puppy. You can learn alot from watching and then you will know what to practice that week.
During the 5 weeks we cover all the basics such as recall, lead-walking, socialisation, sit and stay, focus, leave/drop, mental enrichment and lots more.
What about those early days, that period between collecting pup from breeder and when you are able to attend puppy class as pup isnt yet vaccinated? Those early weeks are so important and often the most difficult. You can’t attend puppy class but you could really do with some advice regarding puppy biting, toilet training, crate training, home alone training, chasing the cat, digging the garden, eating sticks/stones, pinching your trainers or socks and any other struggles you may be having. Well you don’t have to wait until you come to puppy class because you can book a zoom or telephone consult for help, advice, guidance and support. This is available to anyone who has booked the 5 week puppy course at a reduced fee of £20 for an hour. Home visits also available but these are more expensive and for most puppy problem behaviours like the one’s mentioned above we can easily and successfully cover these via zoom.
All the puppy classes are held outside in a field as much as possible as this is a more natural and realistic environment. However, if the weather is really bad, we have a small indoor area we can use. We do not cancel classes due to extreme weather such as thunder/lightening or snow, however we would do the lesson via zoom if it was considered better for the pups.
We are happy for the whole family to come to class, but respectfully ask if you bring children under the age of 8yrs that two adults attend. One to train puppy and the other adult to supervise the child/children. We have found that children under the age of 8yrs get bored, as an hour is a long time for them to sit still, and it can be very distracting, not just for you and your puppy but for the other puppies too. You will find you miss out on loads of info when trying to concentrate on young children as well as a puppy so by having two adults there it will be much better for you, your pup and everyone else.
Anyone aged 16yrs or below must be accompanied by an adult.
Please note our training venue is not suitable for wheelchairs or anyone with mobility problems as the outdoor lessons are in a field and the ground is uneven and in the winter the evening classes are in a small building which has steps leading up to it. There are no toilet facilities on site and Parking is limited so we ask that only one car per puppy come to class.
I am lucky to be able to hold the classes at the premises of (the now permenantly closed) ‘Holiday Home for Pets’ which was a boarding kennels and cattery until March 2020, which is just outside East Ogwell, near Newton Abbot. Please be mindful that this is private property and not owned by the Ogwell Dog Trainer, so please respect it is someones home and they may have their dogs out loose or be moving horses, cows, sheep or tractors so please drive slowly and keep to the allocated dog training field.
Please be aware, because we keep our class numbers small, once booked onto a course you cannot transfer onto a different date or time and any lessons missed or cancelled are not refunded. Refunds are only issued if at least 7 days written notice is given before Week One however this will be minus £30 for the help sheets which are sent out a week before the first class and an admin fee. Once the course has started no refunds are given. Sorry but I have bills to pay too!

From Newton Abbot: Take the Totnes main road (A381). Follow the road to the mini roundabout by the cemetery. Turn right to Ogwell. Follow this road down into the dip and then all the way to the top of the hill. At the top you get to a junction (Ogwell Green), take the first turning on the right, signposted East and West Ogwell. Come down the hill into the village and take the first turning on the right, by the village memorial hall and The Old Bakery. Stay on this road for approximately 3/4 mile. You will now be on Croft Road which turns into a country lane leaving the village behind. Keep going! You will find us on the right hand side 3/4 mile from the village hall and approximately 2 miles (about 10 minutes) from Newton Abbot clock tower.
Alternatively
From Dyrons roundabout, take the Ashburton road (A383). After about a mile turn left into Orchard Grove, opposite the car wash at Mile End. Then next left into Chercombe Bridge Road. Follow Chercombe Bridge Road which is a country lane for 1 mile. You will go over Chercombe Bridge, keep going and take the next left signposted Ogwell. You will find Holiday Home for Pets at the top of the hill on the left.
